Addiction intervention is a planned process that helps the addict recognize the extent of their problem.  Through a non-judgmental, non-critical, systematic process, the addict is confronted with the impact of their addictive behaviors.   The goal of an intervention is for the addict to accept the reality of their addiction and to seek help.

Addicts usually do not know they are out of control.  Because their peers are usually addicts, they believe their actions are normal.

Addicts do not have to “hit bottom” before they will accept help.

Family members and close friends can provide the most powerful motivation for and addict to seek help.

An Intervention is one of the most loving, powerful, and successful methods for helping the family member/addict accept help for their addiction.

For a successful intervention, you should work with a therapist experienced in addiction recovery and interventions.  Dr. Jim Wayland has worked with addicts over 18 years in both residential and out-patient settings.  He has guided many families and friends through successful interventions with their addicted family member
